Honest Weight is a member-owned and -operated consumer food cooperative. Their mission is to promote more equitable, participatory and ecologically sustainable ways of living. Students in the E*clubs on campus are interested in buying local, natural, and sustainably produced food and groceries, so we're gauging interest to see about getting a student membership and organizing weekly rides.
Ecologic has organized trips in the past. If you want to go but don't have a car, talk to AK, or anyone in Ecologic, ESW, or the Terra Cafe - we'll hook you up.
[edit] What is a Co-op?
A co-op is owned and operated by its members. To become a member, there is a one-time membership fee, which is refundable. Becoming a member gives you some discounts, and you can work as a volunteer to get even more discounts. Essentially, a Co-op is to a grocery store what a credit union is to a bank.
[edit] Why Buy at a Co-op?
Typically Co-ops are able to offer lower prices on natural and local foods, which are expensive in general. Buying at a co-op enables students on lower budgets the ability to buy natural and local foods without paying the high price.

HWFC is located at 484 Central Avenue (between Partridge Street and Manning Blvd.) in Albany, New York. To reach the coop from Interstate 90, take exit 5. Go south on Everett Rd (turn right off the ramp if coming from the west; turn left if coming from the east). When Everett ends, turn left onto Central Ave. Continue approx. 3/4 mile, and look for signs for the coop. Turn right into the parking lot. The coop is on the left, behind the Family Dollar store.
