[edit] Houses

[edit] Brunswick

The energy-star rated home in Brunswick, NY is owned by Lance and Carrie Wong. Currently under construction, the house sits on several acres of land atop a hill that overlooks the countryside with the State capitol buildings of Albany in the distance. With few trees blocking the sun, the house was well situated for a passive solar design that includes daylighting, grid-tied photovoltaics, a sunspace, and solar domestic hot water to be added later as awnings to the first floor windows. The home also includes energy star appliances, a heat recovery ventilator, and radiant floor heating. More information about this house can be found here.

[edit] Averill Park

The Averill Park home owned by Ethan Bowerman had a passive solar design and came with solar domestic hot water and a trombe wall when purchased a few years ago. He also added grid-tied photovoltaics and monitoring software that is viewable here. More information about this house can be found here.

[edit] Fultonville

The energy-star rated home in Fultonville, NY owned by Sarah Johnston & Dave Smalley was designed and built off the grid utilizing the best technology to reduce energy demand and increase supply. This includes a passive solar design, daylighting, off-grid photovoltaics, a sunspace, a composting toilet, radiant floor heating, solar domestic hot water, and a wind generator. More information about this house can be found here. A video about their house is available here.

[edit] Gloversville

The Gloversville home Jim Strickland & Laurie Freeman was built by the homeowners with the intent of living off the grid and using local or recycled materials, so the walls are strawbale construction, and the building is passive solar and earth sheltered. The home also includes daylighting, a sunspace, a composting toilet, radiant floor heating, off-grid photovoltaics, solar domestic hot water, and a wind generator. More information about this house can be found here. A video about their house is available here.
