[edit] What We Do

Ecologic's mission is twofold: campus greening, and environmental education. We seek to make the world a better place starting with with RPI, both by moving the campus along a path toward sustainability, and by teaching people how they can apply these principles to their lives.

Ecologic keeps a list of Meeting Minutes so anyone can catch up if they miss one.

[edit] History

EcoLogic was originally founded in the late 1980's as the RPI chapter of Student Pugwash USA. EcoLogic remains a recognized chapter of this organization, but now focuses exclusively on environmental issues. RPI Student Pugwash became EcoLogic somewhere around 1995. EcoLogic is one of the longest continuously-running clubs at Rensselaer.

[edit] Environmental Education Center

RPI Student Pugwash had no official office. It operated like most clubs out of random rooms in the Rensselaer Union and other places on campus. When EcoLogic evolved, with it's goal of providing an information source for the campus, a need to have a central location developed. Professor Carl McDaniel offered the club the use of his office in the Materials Research Center. Later, EcoLogic moved to the Russel Sage Laboratory building on the 2nd floor, approximately room 2417. The necessity of this move stemmed from EcoLogic receiving, in the mid-1990's, a grant to operate a fully-fledge environmental information service, known today as the Environmental Education Center (EEC). Somewhere around 2000, the popularity of the EEC, and it's growing volume of resources, necessitated a move to its current location in Sage Lab 2410. In 2005-2006, a large growth in membership began to strain the EEC's usefulness as a meeting location for the club, and in 2006-2007 meetings were sometimes held in other parts of Russel Sage Laboratory.

Today, the EEC continues to be an information asset to RPI and the community. Despite the growth in information available online, the EEC offers targeted environmental media not available anywhere else in the area, including the Folsom Library. People from as far away as California have requested materials from the EEC, in addition to the more common check-outs from students and community members.
