Greenhouse and gardening

Ecologic sort of has two greenhouses. We want to team up with the Terra Cafe and use them to grow local food.

[edit] Greenhouse Tour

On Thursday, Elly organized a tour to see the greenhouses.

Scott and Kathleen were very accommodating, and made it clear that we can do very much of what we want, as long as we have the manpower to get it done. They can supply us with dirt and bins, and there already exists a watering system in the greenhouse. All we need to provide is seeds, and then to check up on them occasionally to make sure they're being watered.

They can provide us with one-half of a greenhouse year-round, and then the entire other greenhouse during the fall and winter. The landscaping people use one greenhouse during the spring, in order to grow flowers to plant around campus.

[edit] The Situation

  • Check out the greenhouse website
  • From February to May the greenhouse is being used to grow flowers for campus
  • Water pumps are turned off in the main green house starting in November causing it to be unusable
  • There is another smaller house right next to the main greenhouse that we can use all year long
  • If we were to plant things there, we would need someone to check the water daily

[edit] To Do List

  • Make sure there are enough dedicated people to keep it running
  • Possibly make an officer position for coordinating the greenhouse
  • Decide what to grow, and how much to grow
  • Buy seeds, plant them
  • Take pictures and post them here
