Steps for making header paper notebooks:

[edit] Materials needed

  • Scissors / paper cutter
  • Cardboard / sturdy paper or book cover
  • Paper with at least 1 side blank (Near VCC printers are nice places to find them)
  • Binding punch / binder

[edit] Procedure

[edit] Step 1

Make sure all the paper is facing the same way. (Blank sides are either all up or all down)

[edit] Step 2

Punch holes in the paper, going the same way each time (blank sides always facing up or always down). Note which side is facing up when you punch the holes. You can only fit a small amount of paper in at once, so don't force it, or it won't all punch through.

[edit] Step 3

Pick out cardboard to use and cut to the size you want. Decide which side is front and which side is back.

[edit] Step 4

This step is important
Which side was up when you punched the paper?

  • If the blank side was up, then punch the front cover facing up and the back cover facing down.
  • If the non-blank side was up, then punch the front cover facing down and the back cover facing up.

Be sure to make sure you punch on the side you want to have holes.

[edit] Step 5

Place the binding on the binder machine. Do this so that the side with the openings is facing up. Pull the lever to open the binding:

  • If the machine has 2 levers (plastic construction binding machine), pull toward you until the levers lock in place
  • If the machine has 1 lever (metal construction binding machine), push away from you

[edit] Step 6

Put everything on the binding in the following order:

  1. Front cover, face down
  2. Paper, blank side down
  3. Back cover, face up

It is easiest to put a little paper in at a time.

[edit] Step 7

Close the binding and take finished notebook off binding machine

[edit] Step 8

Spread the recycling love
